Somewhat meagre fare today, unusual for a Saturday, with the main meeting at Sandown featuring two small field Group 3s.
The 188Bet Solario Stakes at 3.35 sees the return to action of John Gosden‘s colt Too Darn Hot, which made a spectacularly looking debut three weeks ago, destroying his opposition by 7 lengths on this track.
This son of Dubawi, named after a Cole Porter song, holds more entries than a lottery syndicate, but, with none of his victims having run since, it’s impossible to tell what he beat. 5-6 is the best price on offer, so no value there, then.
We suggest an each way (first two) bet on Alan King‘s smart gelding Dunkerron, which looked all over the winner of the Group 2 Qatar Vintage Stakes at ‘Glorious‘, before being swamped by the ultra-smart Dark Vision.
This horse has improved with each of its five runs and must be value at 9-1.
The 188Bet Casino Atalanta Stakes at 3.00 also has an odds-on favourite in the shape of Veracious. This Sir Michael trained 3-y-o brings rock solid Group 1 form to the table and should win easily. 4-5 is not our thing, though, so we just watch.
At 2.25 the Best Odds Guaranteed At 188Bet Handicap has a better betting shape, with a field of 12 and we go two against the field.
Worthy favourite at 3-1 is the 3-y-o History Writer, trained by David Menuisier and owned by the irrepressible Clive Washbourn. Stepping up two furlongs in trip today could be the making of this well-regarded colt, and he should be backed to win.
Also stepping up in trip is the Richard Hannon trained Almoreb, who has been running well, without winning, on unsuitable ground. Clearly capable of winning of his current mark, at last the ease in the going has arrived and he should be backed each way at a juicy 11-1.
If all else fails, back Barristan The Bold in the 4.10 at 13-8.
No analysis – just do it.
