Just the four races on t’telly today, with the ITV cameras focussed on the meeting at Newmarket which puts on three Group races and a Listed event for our delectation and delight.

The Listed Muhaarar British EBF Rosemary Stakes starts proceedings at 1.50 and the favourite is Hugo Palmer‘s 4-y-o Unforgettable Filly at 5-2. Facile winner of a similar contest in August, this daughter of Sepoy seems bound to run well even though penalised for her efforts.

We think that Laugh Aloud is the way to go in this race.

She won it in 2016 and added a Listed and a Group 3 race as a 4-y-o, before suffering an injury in June last year. She reappeared to run a rusty looking 4th in a Group 3 at Sandown and then finished 5th behind Dancing Star in the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster over 7 furlongs.

Not beaten far that day and with conditions to her liking, she rates a win bet at 7-2.

The Princess Royal Nayef Stakes at 2.25 is a Group 3 over 12 furlongs and Hughie Morrison‘s Star Rock has been installed as favourite after some solid performances both here and abroad. However, good to firm ground is definitely not what this horse wants and we readily pass her over in favour of David Simcock‘s runner Mrs Sippy. Bit of a punny name, but at least it explains the headline* (or not, if you weren’t around in 1976).

Usually plying her trade in higher grade, this 3-y-o comfortably won a Listed race in France two weeks ago and her earlier second to the mighty Sea Of Class is a stand-out piece of form. Get on at 7-2.

2-y-os step forward at 3.00 in the Shadwell Rockfel Stakes, a Group 2 over 7f with Braveheart‘s runner Main Edition favourite at 11-4. A model of consistency, this horse was a little disappointing in the Moyglare just 12 days ago and it could be that she has had enough for now.

We like the chances of Yourtimeisnow, trained by Roger Varian, which is available at 4-1. Already a Group 3 winner, she steps up to this trip for the first time and could well improve for it. With SDS on board, we suggest a win bet.

And finally, the Shadwell Joel Stakes at 3.35 has just 5 runners, but is an intriguing Group 3 nonetheless.

The versatile and consistent Mustashry is at the head of the market at 2-1 and must run well, although it was beaten out of sight in the race last year. We are prepared to ake a chance on the outsider of the field and recommend a win bet on Zonderland at 15-2. Clive Cox has more faith in this horse than anyone else, but the signs have been there on its latest two runs that it might be about to peak, so we’ll give it a whirl under Adam Kirby. Prudence dictates that we throw in a reverse forecast with Mustashry.

The golf is beckoning – bye for now.
