Some cracking racing being covered by ITV today, with the cameras at Newmarket and York.

Feature of the card at Newmarket is the Group 1 bet365 Fillies’ Mile at 3.35, which has attracted a field of eight, headed in the market by Aiden O’Brien‘s Hermosa at 5-2.

This daughter of Galileo finished 3rd in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, before mopping up a Group 3 at Naas 12 days ago. Both those races were over 7f but the run style suggests further improvement now upped to the eight furlongs and we expect Donnacha O’Brien to bring her home in style.

The snappily named Godolphin Stud And Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes at 3.00 sees Limato attempt the double, having taken the race last year. Another year has passed, however, and we’ll take it on with Charlie Appleby‘s representative D’Bai, which is available to back at 7-2.

No disgrace to be touched off by Mustashry last time out, with that horse going on to follow up despite carrying a penalty, the ultra consistent 4-y-o is sure to give us a decent run for the moolah.

The bet365 Old Rowley Cup Handicap at 4.10 completes the meeting’s televised fare, with a competitive field of eleven, led by Sir Michael‘s Baritone and Ralph Beckett‘s Rock Eagle at around the 7-2 mark.

We think that the bet here is an each way lash at Berkshire Royal at a more attractive 10-1. Andrew Balding‘s runner has competed in all the top handicaps that are going and has yet to run a bad race. Just behind Ghostwatch last time out, form that has been royally franked, a mark of 86 is still workable and you just know the horse is going to give it it’s all.

Over at York, the two big handicaps are being covered, starting with the Racebets Money Back 2nd 3rd 4th Handicap (give me strength) at 2.40, which, as we write, has a ‘dead’ 16 declared to run.

Without any breath-holding for all 16 to stand their ground (ho, ho) this is a 9-2 the field open looking contest, but we are going to nail our colours firmly to the mast of Chatez, which is available at 10-1.

Alan King‘s 7-y-o has been plagued with injury throughout its career, having had just 3 runs since winning the Doncaster Spring Mile back in 2015 and even that run was after a long absence!

However, when it does make the track, this is an exceptionally talented beastie and the staying on 4th registered on its latest comeback demonstrated that all the ability remains. That run was 20 days ago, so the signs are that AK has at last got it right, so we will (hopefully) cash in.

The Racebets Handicap at 3.50 completes the action and this 1m 6f 3-y-o event sees the reappearance of John Gosden‘s permanent improver Surya, which heads the market at 9-4. This Frankel offspring has triumphed in his last three races and falls into the category of ‘back until beaten’ – so we suggest you do just that.

Back tomorrow for a look at the Cez.

Summary:

Hermosa 3.35 Newmarket win @ 5-2
D’Bai 3.00 Newmarket win @ 7-2
Berkshire Royal 4.10 Newmarket e/w @ 10-1
Chatez 2.40 York e/w @ 10-1
Surya 3.50 York win @ 9-4
