ITV provide us with a tad of a Brucie Bonus today, when their camera crew disinfect their wellies and head for beautiful County Kildare.
Five races are being covered from the Naas meeting, starting at 1.40 with the Cavah Developments Maiden Hurdle, which has a field of just 25.
With two thirds of the runners priced up at 50-1 or bigger, this may not be as difficult as it looks and there is little doubt that All For Joy is a worthy favourite at 9-4.
Yet to get its head in front in six good quality Bumpers, this 7-y-o has been second in five of them and ran with promise on its only hurdle start in December 2017. First time application of a hood today may well do the trick and a win bet is advised.
Among the opposition is the potentially decent Faugueron, trained by Noel Meade, which won a Listed race on the Flat when trained in France and made a very promising hurdles/stable debut just two weeks ago when 5th of 19 at Fairyhouse. Have an each way bet on this one at 5-1 and we have the race covered.
At 2.10, the BBA Ireland Limited Opera Hat Mares Chase is the most valuable race on the card and features an odds-on Willie Mullins‘ runner in the shape of Pravalaguna, which not only has the best form but also gets a 4lbs allowance into the bargain. Can’t recommend a bet at 4-7, but can recommend a reverse forecast with Teacher’s Pet to keep the interest alive.
At 2.40 the EMS Copiers Rated Novice Hurdle is dominated by the two JP O’Brien representatives, which are trading at 11-8 and 3-1. Both are entered for the same three races at the Festival and we have a distinct preference for the longer priced one, Band Of Outlaws, so we recommend a win bet.
The O’Driscoll O’Neil Handicap Chase at 3.10 has a field of eleven and we think that Peculiar Genius is the one to be with here at an each way 11-2 (6-1 if your lucky). A consistent class-dropper from an in-form yard – what more could you want?
The telly day ends with the Adare Manor Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at 3.40, a simple 23-runner affair, so we’d better throw two each way darts at it.
She’s Made It (5-1) and Leave Your Mark (15-2) are the two beasties in question and, with 6 places available, you’ve got to be hopeful.
That’s it – I’m off to have a nasal swab, just in case.
