Laydees Day at Aintree features the Randox Health Topham Handicap Chase at 4.05, with 27 going to post as we write.

Gamble of the race is the irish trained Call It Magic, available at double figure odds overnight but now down to a skinny 5-1. This 9-y-o would have been one of our each way selections for this race and, such is the attraction of its form, including over these fences, that we now suggest a win bet instead.

We are also interested in the chances of the NT-D trained Ballyhill, which is very much on the improve and should be backed each way at 10-1.

Finally, we can’t resist a tiny each way investment on the Gordon Elliott trained Woods Well, which is available at a tasty 25-1.

Televised coverage starts with the 2.20, the Betway Top Novices Hurdle, with the field of 7 headed by the unbeaten over hurdles Precious Cargo.

Nicky Henderson‘s 6-y-o has impressed in both victories so far and, given the trainer’s impressive record in this race, we suggest a win bet at 7-2.

The Betway Mildmay Novices’ Chase at 2.50 sees the reappearance of impressive Cheltenham winner Topofthegame, which is becoming increasingly well named.

At 4-5, we can’t recommend a bet on this, but suggest an each way bet on Chris’s Dream at 9-1 and a revere forecast with the favourite.

At 3.25 the Melling Chase takes place and we have no intention of deserting Waiting Patiently, which gets its chance to put the record straight after a stop-start season. Have a good win bet at 15-8.

The Doom Bar Sefton Novices’ Hurdle over 3m at 4.40 completes the televised action and the market is headed by Nicky Henderson‘s Champ and the unbeaten Emitom trained by Sir Greatrex.

However, we are going for a turn-up in this race by suggesting an each way lash on Henry De Bromhead‘s runner, Walk Away.

An impressive Point winner before joining this yard, Walk Away made mincemeat of quality opposition in a Novice hurdle last month and his excellent trainer has not brought it here for nothing. Short on experience but very long on potential, the 12-1 available should be snapped up.

There’s a mildly interesting race on tomorrow’s card, so we’ll be back for that.

Call It Magic 4.05 Aintree 2pts win @ 5-1
