BLOWIN’ IN THE WIND

BLOWIN’ IN THE WIND

Storm Hannah has blown in to mark the official end of the jumps season, which takes place at Sandown this afternoon.

Main feature is the bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase at 3.35, with a field of  15 after 5 early withdrawals. Fortunately many firms are still offering 5 places and we have three darts to throw at the target, starting with the headline horse Rolling Dylan, which is available at 20-1.

Philip Hobbs‘s charge ran its best race so far when stepped up to around this trip last time out and with whatever the going is at race time still suitable, we think this 8-y-o will be in at the death.

At an even bigger price, we also suggest a small investment on Prime Venture each way at 33-1.

Last seen finishing 4th in the Midlands Grand National on heavy ground, this novice can outrun its odds under Adam Wedge.

Sanity dictates that we also go for a shorter priced runner and our trusty pin has landed on Just A Sting, trained by Harry Fry. Using a Cheltenham Festival race as a warm up may sound unusual, but young Harry knows the time of day and, come 3.45, we may know why he did it. Take the 6-1 as a win bet.

The card starts with the bet365 Novices’ Championship Final Handicap Hurdle at 1.50 and our two selections for this race are Benny’s Bridge at 8-1 and Humble Hero at 7-1.

BB put up a sterling display in the Imperial Cup, finishing an honourable 7th from 8lbs out of the handicap, before cruising home at Market Rasen in a prep race for today, while HH is an 87 rated Flat horse, running off 127 and aimed at the race by Dan Skelton – nuff said.

Everything about the bet365 Oaksey Chase at 2.25 screams Black Corton, so that’s the one for us. Trust the fragrant Bryony to get her pal home at 3-1.

The bet365 Celebration Chase at 3.00 we will leave to Altior at 2-7 in the hope it can establish a new record for consecutive races won (19).

TV cameras are also at Leicester and Haydock, for one race at each track and, while the event at Leicester is impossible, we’ll have a cautious go at the Betway Old Boston Handicap at 2.05 at Haddock.

Each way bets on Wahash (11-2) and Cold Stare (8-1) should do the trick.

C’est tout, mes amis – au revoir.
