Day 2 of the Newmarket July meeting today, with the cameras also covering two races at York.

Centre stage at HQ is the Group 1 Tattersalls Falmouth Stakes at 3.35, in which Haggas, W appears to hold all the aces, supplying the first and second favourites.

Market leader is One Master, a 5-y-o with a Group 1 already on her CV, having pouched the Prix De La Foret at Longchamps last October. She made her seasonal debut in the Group 2 Landwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh at the end of May, finishing 4th behind stable-mate Beshaayir, who re-opposes this afternoon. Saddled with a penalty that day, One Master followed up with a cracking third in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot and at level weights today, can gain her revenge under James Doyle.

11-4 looks a fair price and we recommend a win bet.

Action starts with the bet365 Handicap at 1.50, which, on the betting, looks wide open at 15-2 the field of 14. With 4 places on offer we will throw a couple of darts at this with each way bets on Alkaamel at 14-1 and Tulfarris at 20-1. Space and time considerations prevent the whys and wherefores, so just do it, OK?

At 2.25 the Group 2 Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes takes place and, sometimes, the blindingly obvious is the route to take and this may be one example. Daahyeh is unbeaten in two starts, beating Raffle Prize decisively on debut before following up equally decisively in the Albany at Royal Ascot at the expense of Celtic Beauty. Those two come out again today, but there is little doubting Roger Varian‘s charge’s superiority so we suggest a lumpy win bet at 6-4.

Another handicap completes the Newmarket action at 3.00, when 18 runners contest the bet365 Trophy and we hope we have this race well and truly sussed.

Worthy favourite at 5-2 is the Johnny G trained Ben Vrackie, undoubtedly an unlucky loser at Royal Ascot and 4lbs well in today. A win bet on the Mad Italian‘s mount is our first port of call.

Our second is the Simon Crisford trained Outbox. Unraced at two and unbeaten in three races at 3, this 4-y-o carried on where it left off with a head defeat in a Listed contest at Chantilly 3 weeks ago. Makes handicap debut today off a mark of 102, which may turn out to be generous for a horse still very much on the improve, so an each way bet at 7-1 makes sense.

Lastly, but possibly not least(ly) we must have an each way bet on Manjaam, way down at the bottom of the weights and available at a juicy 33-1.

Ian Williams‘s runner was a winner off a mark of 92 last summer (for previous yard) and showed clear signs last time out that a return to top form was imminent. Today’s mark is 85, ground and trip are fine – so what’s not to like?

Over at York, the feature race is the William Hill Summer Stakes at 3.15, a 6f Group 3 for the laydees and the unbeaten Archer’s Dream heads the market at 4-1.

However, Shades Of Blue was not far behind when both horses made their debuts and has a 7lb pull today. Clive Cox‘s filly has gone on to take a Listed race at Maisons-Lafitte under today’s pilot Hollie Doyle and must rate a value each way bet at 5-1.

Back tomorrow with a review of all 87 televised races. (No, not really)
