Day Two of the York Ebor funfest will witness the final appearance on these shores of Enable, who is using the Group 1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks at 3.35 as a warm up for her attempt at an unprecedented third Arc victory.
John Gosden‘s mare does have Magical as a serious opponent, although they have met three times before and the score is 3-0 to Enable.
Clearly not a betting proposition at 1-4, watch and enjoy.
The Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at 1.55 kicks off the TV coverage and sees John Quinn‘s flying filly Liberty Beach trying 6 furlongs for the first time. On run style, it’s easy to think the increase in trip will be a benefit, such is the way she has finished her races over the minimum, but at a skinny 6-4 we are not about to pay to find out.
In fact, with several completely unexposed horses in opposition, we prefer just to watch this one as well.
At 2.25 the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes over 6f has a massive field of 21, which will be scattered all over the Knavesmire in pursuit of the £147,540 on offer.
It’s just about impossible to work this kind of race out, but, if we must, we suggest an each way bet on Show Me Show Me at 6-1 for reasons we won’t bore you with.
One race we can get our gnashers into is the Clipper Logistics Handicap at 3.00 which has a field of 18. Two runners stand out on form, starting with Petrus, the mount of the evergreen Martin Dwyer.
Winner of the Doncaster Spring Mile at the start of this season, Brian Meehan‘s charge has not run a bad race since, including last time out when a close third at Sandown and, with the ground drying out by the minute, Petrus rates a cracking each way bet at 14-1.
Our other pick is Baltic Baron, the mount of Danny Tudhope, which is priced up at 8-1. BB ran his best race for David O’Meara over this course and distance in July, finishing second and has since suffered the usual traffic problems at Glorious Goodwood. Still more to come from this 4-y-o and it may be today.
That completes the writing – short, but hopefully sweet.
