COMPENSATION AWAITS

COMPENSATION AWAITS
December 28, 2019 Lee Bolingbroke

Not our finest hour yesterday, when very little went according to plan, fortunately a rare event and one we will endeavour to avoid in the future.

Coverage from Newbury, Leicester and Lingfield today, with the Berkshire track hosting the Grade 1 Betway Challow Novices’ Hurdle at 3.00.

Unfortunately for betting purposes, Thyme Hill is a skinny 4-5 and there are only five runners, so this is one just to watch.

The Betway…Handicap Hurdle at 1.50 is more like it with a field of 12 and we like the look of Sevarano in this.

Lightly raced last season, but running some really good races, Sevarano has won both Novice hurdles  this season and looks to be on an attractive mark for its handicap debut. Get on each way at 5-1.

The Betway Mandarin Handicap Chase at 2.25 sees the reappearance of Cobolobo, which finally realised some of its immense promise last time out when taking a Haydock handicap by a comfortable looking 5 lengths. Raised 7lbs for that, but should be ideally suited to Newbury‘s wide open spaces and we recommend an each way bash at 6-1.

Newbury‘s action closes with the Betway Novices’ Handicap Chase at 3.35 and the one that interests us here is Morning Vicar, trained by Nicky Henderson.

Very lightly raced, but with two wins already pouched, this 6-y-o finished a good second on return from a break and can make its chase debut off the same mark. Built somewhat like a Challenger or a Churchill, fences could see a blossoming of talent and we suggest a fair win bet at 11-4.

Over at Leicester, the Leicestershire Silver Fox Handicap Chase is being shown for our delectation and delight, with the mst interesting runner here being Eureu Du Boulay, trained by the very much in form Richard Hobson.

A winner of two chases last season, EDB tuned up for today with a smooth win in a Fontainebleau hurdle, sauntering home by 18 lengths on heavy ground.

Just seven lbs higher for its return to fencing, this 5-y-o may just take all the beating and we recommend an each way bet at 4-1.

Also in this race, we also suggest an each way ‘saver’ on Virnon at 20-1.

Not shown much in three runs this season, but has a pull of no less than 28lbs with Eureu Du Boulay for a 10 length beating at Sedgefield a year ago.

The Leicestershire Bronze Fox Handicap Hurdle at 3.15 is also on telly and we think that Destin D’Ajonc at 8-1 is worth a small each way bet to show the benefit of its recent two races after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Just the one race covered from Leafy, that being the Betway Casino Handicap at 2.10. Competitive and trappy this, but we think each way bets on Htilominlo (pronounced, er, nfi) at 9-1 and Seafarer at 14-1 will give us a run for our hard-earned.

Yours in hope, we remain etc etc.

Sevarano 1.50 Newbury 2.5pts e/w @ 5-1
