Racing at last returns to our screens today, with the meetings at Newmarket and Lingfield  covered by ITV, with 7 races shown

Action at Newmarket begins at 1.50 with the Betway Handicap over 6f of the Rowley Milecourse. Best form on offer here is held by the favourite Swindler, which was last seen winning at Ascot with any amount in hand last September and should cope with a 6lb rise in the ratings. Stable form is very much an unknown, with Ed Walker‘s two runners since the resumption both being heavily backed but running as if needing it, so we will venture a cautious win bet at 11-4.

We also like the chances of Flavius Titus, making stable debut for Jedd O’Keeffe and already a CD winner. Small e/w on this one at 12-1.

The Group 3 Betway Abernant Stakes at 2.25 has the evergreen Brando installed as 7-4 fav, but we prefer the chances of Kevin Ryan‘s other runner Emaraaty Ana, which is available at 6-1. This 4-y-o is already a Group 2 winner and will be more suited by the ground conditions than his stablemate, so an each way bet is recommended.

The Betway Paradise Stakes at 3.00, a Listed contest, has a short priced favourite in the shape of Sir Michael‘s Sangarius, which is a horse we don’t like – so there. That should ensure that it bolts up under Ryan Moore, but just in case, we suggest a modest each way punt on Prince Eiji at a palatable 14-1 – hope rather than expectation prevails.

There’s another ‘shorty’ in the Hurworth Bloodstock Coronation Cup at 3.35 and this one we’re not about to take on. Ghaiyyath is a potential ‘monster’ for the Charlie Appleby yard and should be backed at 5-4.

Over at Leafy, televised action kicks off with a fierce looking 3-y-o AW handicap at 2.05 which, for betting purposes, should be avoided like COVID-19.

The traditional Classic trials have survived the pandemic melee, with the Betsafe…Oaks Trial Fillies’ Stakes  at 2.40 seeing 9 young ladies going to post, three of which are trained by John Gosden.

Notwithstanding previous turn ups in this race, it is hard to see past the apparent first string, Miss Yoda, which, on paper at least, has by far the superior form, so we recommend a win bet at 11-10.

The boys equivalent at 3.15, the Betsafe Derby Trial Stakes looks at the mercy of the currently all-conquering Andrew Balding, with his representative Berkshire Rocco, which is available to back at 5-2. This son of Sir Percy has form that ties in with the aforementioned Miss Yoda, so lets hope it’s the right one.
