Last week Glenn Frey, this week Moma Cass – our Headline Writer shows his versatility and it’s over to Newbury we go for the race in question, the Group 2 Unibet Hungerford Stakes at 3.35.

10 runners are scheduled to pitch up for this event and our selection (there’s a surprise) is Dream Of Dreams.

This Sir Michael trained 6-y-o usually plies its trade at Group 1 level, being beaten just a head in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, its first race since last October and first race since becoming ‘sans noisettes’.

On the basis that the run and the surgery will have made the difference, this rates a good bet at 2-1.

The Unibet Handicap at 2.25 has Afaak and Tempus fighting it out at the head of the market at 7-2 and, with Tempus not having run since October and being well beaten in its only handicap, we much prefer the chances of Charles HillsAfaak.

3rd to Prompting at Glorious Goodwood two weeks ago and already a winner off today’s mark, we trust Big Jim to steer it home.

At 3.00 is the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes and here we take Morando to put the disappointment of Royal Ascot behind it and take its favourite race.

Previous two runs have seen a dead heat win (with Young Rascal) and an ultra game attempt to give 5lbs to Technician last season, only succumbing by a neck. You betcha Andrew Balding has fully prepared his charge for today and the 3-1 on offer should be taken.

Cameras are also at Newmarket this afternoon, starting with the Betway Handicap at 2.05, in which we are a bit all over the fav Boss Power.

It was only a Class 5 Maiden handicap that Sir Michael‘s 3-y-o won at Yarmouth last time out, but the manner in which this Frankel colt, er, bossed the race implied plenty of improvement still to come and he should be followed until beaten, which, hopefully, won’t be today. Take 15-8.

The Betway Handicap at 2.40 is currently a ‘dead eight’ affair and let’s hope it stays that way for the sake of our each way selection Dashing Roger.

Bill Stone‘s 3-y-o was not flat out to beat Folk Dance (4-5f) last time out under today’s pilot Marco Ghiani and an extra 4lbs today is not an impossible impost. Take the 7-1 generally available.

At 3.15 the oddity that is the Betway Grey Horse Handicap tales place and the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 9th from last year’s race all pitch up again.

Fearlessly we’ll oppose all of them and plump for Split Down South at a juicy 14-1. The McEntee family pet has won 5 races for the yard, all on the All Weather and tuned up for this with an exercise gallop under the fragrant Grace in a Class 3 handicap at Kempton. 5 runs on turf in Oireland before joining young Phil proved the horse’s ability to act on it, so it’s a sporting punt at the price.

Back next week for all the fun of York.
