THANKS A MILLION

THANKS A MILLION
January 21, 2022 Lee Bolingbroke

Opening day of the three-day Million Pound Meeting at Lingfield today and, thankfully for the Sponsors, the course has passed an inspection and racing goes ahead on heavy ground.

First televised event is the racehorselotto.com Handicap Chase at 1.50 with a field of just seven.

We will ‘dutch’ this race by suggesting win bets on La Ligerian at 4-1 and Eclair D’Anay at 9-2.

Next up is the Cazoo Hurdle at 2.25, which has a disappointing turnout of just four runners. This race looks a match between On The Blind Side and Emitom, both of which are possibly lights of better days but should fight this out. At the prices (evens & 13-8) we recommend a bet on Emitom, winner of a Grade 2 at Haydock on heavy ground in 2020.

The Weatherbys Novices’ Case at 3.00 has Broken Halo as the 5-2 favourite after a wide margin win at Exeter at the start of this year. Only its second try over fences, Paul Nicholls‘ 7-y-o should be well suited by today’s step up in trip and is worth a bet to go in again.

If ratings mean anything in this race, then Colonial Dreams shouldn’t be anything like 16-1, having run so well on its belated chase debut last time out. Nicky Henderson‘s sprightly 10-y-o has to prove it handles the deep ground but at a silly price we recommend an each way bet.

Final race on the box is the Sovereign Handicap Hurdle at 3.35, with Metier heading the list of 12 runners at 11-4. Harry Fry‘s Tolworth Hurdle winner from last season has its conditions for the first time this season and is on a favourable mark, so a win bet is suggested.

We also recommend an each way bet on Hudson De Grugy, which has developed the winning habit (5-8) and sluiced home over CD in December. Just 3lbs higher this afternoon, looks nailed on to make the frame at 11-2.

The cameras are also at the meeting at Market Rasen this afternoon, but, having failed the first two inspections (frost) the third one is scheduled for 11.30, which is after you have received this.

In the event that the meeting goes ahead, our selections are included in the Summary below.

Happy punting.
