Curtain comes down on the Jumps season at Sandown this afternoon, with Brian Hughes and Paul Nicholls in attendance to be crowned Champion Jockey and Trainer respectively.

Feature race is at 3.35, when the bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase takes place, with the Hairy Welshman in with a shout of saddling the first three home.

Top weight Win My Wings comes here having pouched the Eider and the Scottish National and even the stone impost for the latest win may not stop it, while Kitty’s Light was a desperately unlucky second in this race last year.

Add in Cap Du Nord, which was a close 5th last year and there’s your Tricast.

Actually we are going to oppose all three with our main selection Enrilo.

Paul Nicholls‘ 8-y-o ‘won’ this race last year but was disqualified for hampering Kitty’s Light, which finished third but promoted to second behind Potterman, which was awarded the race after finishing second (keep up!).

The Champion Trainer elect has carefully protected Enrilo‘s handicap mark in a bid to land the £90,000 prize, which means it is better off with all those behind it from last term. His patience and planning deserve to be rewarded and we recommend a fair each way bash at 9-2.

Our other pick is the Philip Hobbs‘ trained Musical Slave, which has burst into life recently and is 7lbs ahead of its future mark. No breakfast for Tom O’Brien as he has to do 10st 2lbs and carry our each way money at 15-2.

Action commences with the valuable bet365 Novices’ Championship Final Handicap Hurdle at 1.50 with Knappers Hill and Head Law disputing favouritism at 4-1.

We think these are the two on which to concentrate and a win bet on each would appear the way to go.

The Grade 2 bet365 Oaksey Chase at 2.25 has just 4 runners, but that doesn’t make it any easier to sort out. All four have question marks against them, but we give one last chance to Saint Calvados to prove the gelding is no busted flush ad recommend a win bet at 7-4.

At 3.00 we get the bet365 Celebration Chase, which sees a clash between Greaneteen and Nube Negra, with our preference being for last year’s winner Greaneteen which should be backed at 6-4.

Flat racing pokes its nose in with coverage of the Great Shevington Handicap at 2.05 at Haydock.

As previously, we can’t split the two at the to of the market, so win bets on Alrehb and Boardman at 7-2 is the advice.

Roll on Summer Jumping.
