The first track ever played on Radio 1 in 1967 gives us the headline for Day 2 of the Boodles Chester Festival, with the first five races on ITV.

Centrepiece of the card is the Group 3 Ormonde Stakes at 3.10, which has a field of nine, headed by Albaflora at 5-4.

Ralph Beckett‘s 5-y-o mare is unbeaten on her seasonal debuts, has also finished second in two Group 1s and will be suited by cut in the ground.

So what’s not to like? Well, nothing, so have a decent bet at the odds.

Action commences at 1.30 with the Stellar Sports Handicap over 5f, a race in which the winner has been drawn 4 or lower in the past five runnings.

The original ten strong field has been reduced to just seven by three non-runners, amazingly drawn 6,7 and 9 but, in any case, we think the ultra consistent Look Out Louis is the one to be with from Trap 3. 11-4 looks fair enough, so let’s do it.

The Deepbridge Handicap at 2.05 is next up and, with the advantage of a recent good run, we take Outgate to turn over the favourite. Drawn 1 and with the very in-form Ryan Moore booked, the Kubler‘s representative should be backed at 5-2.

The Listed Dee Stakes at 2.40 is dominated in the market by AO’B‘s Star Of India, which comes here after a tune up in the Craven, finishing fifth behind Native Trail. Could be in a different league, so we have to go with it at 6-4.

However, we’ll also throw in a ‘saver’ bet on Hugo Palmer‘s Mr McCann, which ended his time with Tom Dascombe with an excellent win at Epsom last September and will have been aimed at today’s event. 4-1 is the price.

That just leaves the Boodles Raindance Handicap at 3.40 and we are proud of both our selections in this.

Pride Of Priory ended last season with two wins over today’s trip and still possesses bags of potential for improvement this year. Off a mark of 85, it should be backed at 3-1.

Pride Of America should also be backed, each way, at 5-1. Amy Murphy has done really well with this 5-y-o, getting a win and a close second in the two runs for the yard after a mammoth break and SDS may make all this afternoon.

As yesterday, ITV are also throwing in a jumps race, this time the 1.50 from Worcester, but, unlike yesterday, we have a selection in it.

When Katy Price is not being arrested, she trains a few racehorses and in Gallow Ford has a viable shot at this race.

A dual Irish Point winner, KP managed to get a hurdle win out of the 7-y-o last season and now, after a pipe opener, goes chasing for the first time. At 7-2 this is an attractive betting proposition.

Back tomorrow to sort out the Chester Cup.
