So orf we jolly well go to the first day of Royal Ascot, with all seven races being televised (switch to ITV4 for the last one.)

The Queen Anne Stakes at 2.30, which kicks off the proceedings is a non-event for betting purposes with Baaeed at 1-6 to pouch another Group 1 and we hope for a stunning start from this unbeaten colt.

A field of 17 line up for the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at 3.05 with Blackbeard and Persian Force disputing favouritism at 3-1.

Richard Hannon has been fulsome in his praise for the latter, who is unbeaten in two and we take his charge to make it three from three.

We also suggest an each way bet on Archie Watson‘s Bradsell, so impressive when winning by an eased down 9 lengths at York on racecourse debut, with a subsequent winner 12 lengths back. Sure to give the fragrant Hollie a good spin, the 8-1 looks attractive.

The Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at 3.40 features the two highest rated sprinters in the world and they head the betting at 2-1 and 7-2.

Nature Strip is an 8-y-o Aussie-trained winner of 8 Group 1s in its native habitat, none of which have been on G/F ground.

We much prefer the US trained 4-y-o Golden Pal, which loves to hear the hooves rattle and comes here after a blitz victory at Keeneland. At 7-2 this looks the value bet.

The Ascot Stakes is a handicap over 2m 4f and has a field of 20, which we have narrowed down to three.

Arcadian Sunrise ran a stormer in the Chester Cup when last seen, runs off the same mark today and has the services of ‘next big thing’ Harry Davies.

We recommend an each way bet at 11-2.

We also suggest each way punts on last year’s winner Rishoun and a rare Skelton Flat runner Proschema, both at 14-1.

The Listed Wolferton Stakes at 5.35 also sees last year’s winner back for another go in the shape of Juan Elcano, which won on second run in 2021.

With an almost identical preparation this year, Kevin Ryan‘s 5-y-o should be backed each way at 7-1.

Finally the Copper Horse Stakes Handicap at 6.10, with a field of 16.

We have a strong preference for Stowell, from the Gosden‘s yard after his close third in the Queen’s Vase here last year on similar going. Add to that the Maiden win also over this CD and, off 104, you have a wager, major.

Take the 13-2 and trust the Mad Italian.

Back, of course, tomorrow.
