SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS

Acknowledgement to the Eurythmics for today’s headline on Day 3 of the Glorious Goodwood Festival, which has the Qatar Nassau Stakes at 3.35 as its centrepiece.

Hot favourite in the nine strong field is Nashwa from the Gosdens’ yard, which is currently an even money poke.

This 3-y-o pitches up here after a hard fought victory in a French Group 1, which may not have been as strong a renewal as in previous years and we prefer to oppose her with an each way bet on Dreamloper at 6-1.

Ed Walker‘s 5-y-o is as hard as nails and has also won a French Group 1 this season, before running 6th in the Curragh Pretty Polly Stakes on totally the wrong ground. Kieran Shoemark has struck up a good relationship with the old girl and she looks the value.

Opening race on the card is the Coral Kincsem Handicap over 10 furlongs and this 3-y-o affair is a case of ‘spot the biggest improver’.

We hope to have it right in suggesting win bets on Vee Sight at 100-30 and Migdam at 4-1.

The Group 2 Richmond Stakes at 2.25 has a very worthy favourite in Royal Scotsman at 11-8.

The Coles‘ son of Gleneagles was mightily impressive when winning by 5 lengths over this CD in May, with Tuesday’s easy winner Mischief Magic well adrift in third, after which he went on to finish third at Royal Ascot. The second and fourth have both pouched Group races since and there is little doubt that this is the best form on offer by a good way. A decent win bet is recommended.

Second in the CD race, on racecourse debut, was Bluelight Bay, which went on to win hard held at Windsor beating a couple of useful yardsticks.

Probably won’t turn the form around but may well take care of the rest, so an each way tickle at 12-1 is suggested.

At 3.00 we get the Group 3 Gordon Stakes which has a field of 10, headed in the market by Charlie Appleby‘s New London.

This horse was ante-post fav for the Derby before being slaughtered by Changingoftheguard at Chester, since when it has won a handicap off 99.

We can’t help feeling that Grand Alliance is overpriced at 10-1, given that Charlie Fellowes‘ charge got within a short head of Changingoftheguard at Royal Ascot. This horse has his quirks but might take to Goodwood and is well worth an each way shout.

The Jaeger-Lecoultre Nursery Handicap at 4.10 is perhaps not a race to get too heavily involved in, but each way bets on Far Shot at 5-1 and Prairie Falcon at 9-1 could pay dividends.

The 5f World Pool Handicap at 4.45 is a race not to get involved with at all, thank you very much – we pass.

Jusqu’a demain, mes amis.
